PLEASE NOTE: This is ONLY a guide. Each severe or hazardous weather episode can demand varying levels of preparedness and coverage. The following codes are in NO way tied to specific advisories, watches, or warnings issued by the National Weather Service. Rather, they are generated by the ABC17 Stormtrack weather team based on the forecasted conditions over the entire ABC17 viewing area.

Severe thunderstorms (or other non-winter forms of hazardous weather) are possible anywhere in Mid-Missouri within the next 24 to 48 hours. Mid-Missourians are encouraged to stay tuned to frequent weather updates and forecasts on ABC17 News during evenings at 6, 9, and 10, and on Good Morning Missouri starting every weekday at 5am. Severe thunderstorms are imminent or already occuring, but NOT widespread. At this point, we expect a watch or warning to be issued by the National Weather Service within the hour and LIVE coverage on ABC17 Stormtrack 24/7 to begin within the next 3 hours (or when a warning is issued). At this time, you are encouraged to prepare for a severe weather event in your hometown and stay tuned to ABC17 or keep our Strormtrack Blog on your computer's desktop.

Widespread severe thunderstorms capable of producing widespread damage and/or tornadoes are imminent or already occurring. Extended live coverage should be expected on ABC17, FOX38, and ABC17 Stormtrack 24/7. Updates will also be posted regularly on our Stormtrack Blog.
